UP unveils record ₹7.36 lakh crore budget for 2024-25, focuses on women, youth, farmers

On February 5th, 2024, the Uttar Pradesh government presented its budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year.

Overall:

  • This is the largest budget in Uttar Pradesh's history, amounting to ₹7.36 lakh crore.
  • It includes ₹24,863 crore allocated for new schemes.
  • The fiscal deficit is 3.46%.

Focus areas:

  • Women, youth, farmers, and job creation received the most significant allocations.
  • ₹50 crore allocated for a new Chief Minister's Khet Suraksha Yojana (field protection scheme).
  • ₹400 crore allocated to establish a new medical college in Varanasi.
  • ₹70 crore allocated for the Chief Minister's Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme.
  • Three to four new industrial corridors planned.

Other noteworthy points:

  • The budget aims to improve infrastructure, healthcare, education, and tourism.
  • It also allocates funds for religious tourism development in Ayodhya and Kashi.

Reactions:

  • The Yogi Adityanath government called it a "progressive and development-oriented" budget.
  • Opposition parties criticized it for not addressing issues like unemployment and inflation.
